District Profile

The district is named after its headquarters, Bhiwani city. Bhiwani city, it is believed, was founded by a Rajpoot named Neem Singh after his wife Bhani. The name Bhani later changed to Bhiyani and subsequently to Bhiwani created on 22 December 1972, the centre of regional politics and hometown of three former Haryana chief ministers: Bansi Lal, Banarsi Das Gupta and Hukum Singh. People used to call it Chota Kashi becasue we can find temple of every second or third lane cornor. The present setup of Bhiwani district is as under:

District Bhiwani is situated between 28.19 deg. & 29.05 deg. North latitude and 75.26 deg. and 76.28 deg. East Longitude.. District Bhiwani is located 124 km of India capital New Delhi and 295 km of Haryana capital Chandigarh.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of Bhiwani district is 196,057. The literacy rate of Bhiwani is 83.09%.
